First Worldcon post
13 July 2016

Arrived in Kansas City about 5:00 PM to surprisingly light traffic and checked into the convention hotel, the Crown Plaza.  It's just across from the convention center.

The drive up was pleasant.  There were a few rain squalls as we left Arkansas, but the rest of the drive was made at speed...  Except for the parts where big trucks tried to pass each other going up hill and ten or fifteen miles an hour below the rest of the traffic's speed.

Check in was a long process since the Belgian air force has 15 pilots and crew operating out of St. Joseph, MO presently.  They were checking in too, ahead of me.  The process was made less boring by the fact that the Kansas City Comicon is in the convention center.  Costumes paraded on the street.  The Belgians are flying C130s, but I saw one patch that indicated the airman had 1,000 hours in F16s (lucky devil).

A Kurdish taxi driver approached the ones waiting outside the hotel and bummed a cigarette.  His English was worse than the pilot's.

I will check with the convention center tomorrow to find out when we start setting up for Worldcon.

And that's it for today.  Hopefully, more tomorrow, including a couple of pictures.
